(2) What is the “3rd Ijtihad” ?
The 3rd Ijtihad is an umbrella think-tank that now includes such methodologies as “A.L.I” and “I.I.I”.
It is meant to tackle and resolve the ever-growing umbrella problem gnawing a Muslim’s existence , the «Communication Greenhouse Effect” (CGE), which I have put forward in (1) above.
“ALI”, or “Applied Linguistic Islamology”, is the scientific and academic platform to the “3rd Ijtihad”. It results from a comparative perspective according to which Islam could be comprehended as a language , any language, is. The educational and ideological implications of such view can already be detected through the studies, essays and articles I have so far published in Arabic.
“I.I.I”, short for “Interactive Interpretation of Islam”, is what I have reached, only recently, as a result of everyday exposure of A.L.I- inspired principles to every little aspect of everyday life in my own society with a view to the Arab-Muslim society as a whole.
It is a method for interpreting Islam thanks to prior merging of religion and science, the merger being the core theme of “A.L.I”, and the initial interaction being the one occurring between religion and science, prior to any other type of interaction (believer Vs Koran; believer Vs believer; believer Vs the Other; and so on).
Hence, such endeavour as”I.I.I” aims at setting up philosophical bases for Islam as an entity that is not taught, but learnt through experience on a daily basis. Therefore it could be considered to be an existential and empirical way of envisioning Islam, thus being desirably most suitable for an urgent large-scale enlightenment- conscious intellectual drive aiming to help modernity be grounded into a Muslim’s cultural environment.

Is it much of Ijtihad witnessing that Muslim clerics as well as down-to-earth believers have to wait for the gates of Ijtihad to reopen under the umbrella "consensus;analogy; laying down sharia- based laws"; the very gates which were bound to get sealed in the mid-10th century?While history has demostrated that those gates are not likely to reopen afer having shut down.Most likely because there was no more reason why they should remain open.
Therefore we think that present-day Muslims can do with a new form of Ijtihad; that of Reason and of Science, and that the existing interpretations of Islam are contemporary enough to underlie the new Ijtihad,providing that communication highways are build amidst the hollow gap separating the Reason-Science shutter from the Text- text interpretation shutter.This form of Ijtihad is what we've named " The 3rd Ijtihad" (or "Integrationist Ijtihad").
